Fire Protection Outfits Pro-Grind’s Tree-Eating Monster

Posted on September 11, 2017 by

This customized tree-eating machine started life as a Komatsu excavator. Pro-Grind added a 50-inch cutter head and a 600 horsepower auxiliary Caterpillar C13 Marine diesel engine to power it, and Fire Protection added three 30-pound ABC canisters and a five-gallon wet agent AFEX suppression system. In the event of a fire, strategically placed nozzles spray extinguishing agent into the enclosure and flood it.

This monster can do the work of sixty men in a day and drinks 100 gallons of diesel to do so. Moments after Fire Protection employees completed the system installation, it trundled off into the woods, clearing a power line. Soon thereafter, an inquisitive turkey waddled by to see what all the fuss was about.
